Movies
I’ve known Josh Townsend from the Internet for quote a few years. I always admired his passion and enthusiasm for movies. Most particularly in hardcore horror films. Like so many others, Josh had aspiration to be a filmmaker, and I wasn’t surprised when I heard that Josh had completed a short called Loyalty. In this time of relative ease in making a digital film, a lot of people have done the same. However, unlike most of them, Loyalty is original and highly entertaining. And best of all, there isn’t a gut-munching zombie to be found in it.

The cover of Loyalty describes the film as Gangster Horror. It starts off with a throbbing rap beat as two black dudes ready themselves for a drug deal rip-off. The stakes are raised when the truth comes out about what the deal is really all about. Unsurprisingly, loyalty is a central theme in the story. Loyalty to one’s friends, one’s conscience and even society at large.

Loyalty is, for a first movie, very well shot, paced and acted. Josh takes advantage of his brief running time to keep the story in high gear the whole time, as the story grows more violent and desperate.

I’ve had Loyalty for several months and I’ve ended up putting it in and watching it a few times. It would make an excellent DVD to play at parties where guests have imbibed various substances that make their attention spans short.

Check out the site and the trailer if you have the time. And please consider buying a copy from Josh. It’s cheap and Josh recently had a collision between his hand and a table saw. He could use any help he can get. If you should decide to purchase a copy of this DVD, let him know that you heard about it from Horror Drive-In.
