Cavallaro's Cavalcade of Carnage
I've read a record low of only 8 books this month. Part of the reason why is that Patrick Rothfuss's The Name of the Wind is 4,782 pages long. I promise to do better next month. Lets go!

1: THE HOLLOW PLACES, T Kingfisher. Yet another overrated GoodReads award nominee. Grade: C
2: THE SUN DOWN MOTEL, Simone St. James. One of those rare mysteries where the 1st act was the best of the 3. Grade: C
3: A PRIMER TO HAN SONG (collection), Han Song. Uneven quality-wise, but the good stuff is REALLY good. Grade: C
4: BLACK MAD WHEEL, Josh Malerman. My least favorite of Malerman's work. Grade: C
5: THE NAME OF THE WIND, Patrick Rothfuss. Very good low fantasy classic. Grade: B
6: THE INVENTION OF SOUND, Chuck Palahniuk. I love Chuck, but this one isn't his best. Grade: C
7: THE GENTLEMAN'S HOUR, Don Winslow. Fantastic crime/mystery. Grade: A
8: LITTLE DARLINGS, Melanie Golding. Great potential, but I prefer my witch novels darker. Grade: C

WORST OF THE MONTH:

THE HOLLOW PLACES by T Kingfisher

As you can see, I struggled in November. None of these books were terrible per se, but I did read a lot of average stuff. Worst of the month was basically between this one and Malerman's BLACK MAD WHEEL. Both books had good premises, but I tired of both of them around the halfway point. The reason that I put THE HOLLOW PLACES in last place is because it is the book that has stuck with me the least.

BEST OF THE MONTH:

THE GENTLEMAN'S HOUR by Don Winslow

Winslow saved November for me. I was beginning to think that I wouldn't have an A read for this month. I've now read three books by Winslow and have loved all three (THE FORCE, THE DAWN PATROL, and this one). THE GENTLEMAN'S HOUR is a sequel to THE DAWN PATROL, but could be read as a standalone story. Sometimes you just have to put the horror novels down and give Winslow a chance. Thanks to Mark Sieber for the heads up!
