Cavallaro's Cavalcade of Carnage
So, my reading this month was split between Women in Horror Month and prepping to vote for the Splatterpunk Awards.

The first part of the month was dedicated to the Splatterpunk awards. Every year, I try to make my vote matter by reading as much splatterpunk/extreme horror as my brain will handle. I won't disclose the grades for these books (I will be serving on the jury for the award), but here is a list of what I read. Also bear in mind that these aren't the only splatterpunk books that I read to prep for the vote; just the ones read in February:

Along the Path of Torment by Chandler Morrison
The Essential Sick Stuff by Ronald Kelly
Wormwood by Chad Lutzke/Tim Meyer
Horrorama (anthology) ed. CV Hunt
Negative Space by BR Yeager
The Blackening by Sean O Connor
Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
Splatterpunk Bloodstains (anthology) ed. Jack Bantry
Year's Best Hardcore Horror Vol. 5 (anthology) ed Randy Chandler and Cheryl Mullenax
Pandemonium by Ryan Harding/Lucas Mangum
The Thirteenth Koyote by Kristopher Triana

THREE of these twelve books got "A" grades. You will just have to wonder which ones...

Ok, now onto the Women in Horror:

Songbirds and Stray Dogs by Meagan Lucas

Like a cross between Kristin Hannah and Tiffany McDaniel. I don't know how to praise it more than that.

Unfortunate Elements of My Anatomy
by Hailey Piper

This was not a bad collection. It was average, and was up against a stacked list of really good books. "The Burning of the Blueberries" was a highlight for me, but not enough to elevate the collection.

The rest:

Nothing but Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw. Haunting story. Too bad you have to wait til October! Grade: B

The Between by Tananarive Due. Best I've read from her so far. Grade: A

All the Fabulous Beasts by Priya Sharma (collection). Good, but not as good as Ormeshadow. Grade: C

That's all folks. Beware the ides of March!
