I still need to unpack from my Scares That Care trip (yes: lots of fun was had), so let's just jump in, shall we?
Best of the Month:
The Final Girl Support Group , by Grady Hendrix
In the interest of not having to repeat myself (I've done a standalone review of this book for the site already), I will repeat myself: READ. THIS. BOOK. You may be tempted to get Stephen Graham Jones' My Heart is a Chainsaw instead (both are slasher homages). Don't. This one is better. Trust me.
Worst of the Month (tie):
The Thursday Murder Club, by Richard Osman and Dirty Old Town by Gabrial Valjan
I don't normally do this, but I really didn't want to stress over which one of these was worse. They were both boring enough to barely remember anything about them. Avoid.
The rest:
From the Desk of Zoe Washington, Janae Marks. Really wholesome YA story. Grade: A
Catfishing on Catnet, Naomi Kritzer. Another good YA novel. Grade: B
Shattering Glass (anthology). Some good stuff, but mostly average and worth avoiding. Grade: C
Derailed, Mary Keliikoa. Average. Grade: C
Jonah Hex: Two Gun Mojo (graphic novel), Joe Lansdale. One of my favorite western-style graphic novels. Grade: B
The Auteur: Book 2 (graphic novel), Rick Spears. Not as good as book one, but still very fun. Grade: B
California Schemin' (anthology). Not bad, but also not worth your time. Grade: C
Come With Me, Ronald Malfi. Quite possibly Malfi's best. Grade: A
Both Sides (anthology). Ok, most anthologies aren't very good. Grade: C
Lockdown (anthology). See above. Grade: C
Midnight at the Barclay Hotel, Fleur Barclay. YA mystery, nothing special. Grade: C
That's it!
