Cavallaro's Cavalcade of Carnage
I read all horror in October (as per usual). 5 graphic novels and 14 books.

Let's get started.

BEST OF THE MONTH: Bent Heavens by Daniel Kraus

I read Chandler Morrison's Until the Sun early in the month, and I thought for sure it would win. It was close, but I've got to give it to Kraus's absolutely stellar coming-of-age story, Bent Heavens. No spoilers. No summary. Read it. Trust me.

WORST OF THE MONTH: Remains by Andrew Cull

Nothing to say here. It was boring. I don't remember any of it.

Here are the rest:

Coyote Songs by Gabino Iglesias. Disliked the mosaic format. Grade: D
The Upturned Stone by Scott Hampton (graphic novel). Creepy story, creepy art. Grade: A
Until the Sun by Chandler Morrison. I'm consistently impressed with this guy. Grade: A
Mammon by Michael Hague (graphic novel). Bold, garish art, with ok story. Grade: C
The Other Side of Elsewhere by Brett McKay. Very pleasant surprise. Grade: A
The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling. Too long for such a simple story. Grade: D
Charnel House by Graham Masterton. I'm done with Masterton. Too many misses. Grade: D
A Hawk in the Woods by Carrie Laben. Decently written characters, but couldn't get into it. Grade: D
Frozen Charlotte by Alex Bell. Ok haunted toy story. Grade: C
Wet Work by Philip Nutman. I was supposed to like this one. Grade: D
Injection, Vol 1 and 2 by Warren Ellis (graphic novel). Too convoluted of a story for me. Grade: D
Infinity Dreams by Glen Hirshberg. Hirshberg is great, but this wasn't. Grade: D
The Low, Low Woods by Carmen Maria Machado (graphic novel). Another great entry from Hill House Comice. Grade: B

Til next month!
