Boy did I start off my reading year with a BANG! The very first book read may actually be the best book that I read all year:
BEST OF THE MONTH:
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
This is a basically a 700-page heartbreak, but Yanagihara inserts enough redemption and beauty to make it worthwhile. All while giving a masterclass in writing a story about friendship.
WORST OF THE MONTH:
Riot Baby by Tochi Onyebochi
I only read 5 books this month, which is by far the least I've read in a month for quite some time. This is how a decent book like Riot Baby ends up being the worst one. I hate to do it, but rules are rules. Many people like this one, so you probably shouldn't listen to me anyway.
The rest:
I Spit Myself Out by Tracy Fahey (collection). Mostly average stuff in here. Grade: C
Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark. Award-winning for good reason. Grade: B
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. Better than The Martian. Grade: A
I will read more in February, I promise.
