Cavallaro's Cavalcade of Carnage

BEST OF THE MONTH

Graveyard Billy by David Irons
A charming story about a black cat that helps a ghost reunite with her family. From the guy that brought you Don't Go to Wheelchair Camp, believe it or not.

WORST OF THE MONTH

Everything Under the Moon by Jeff Johnson

This has got to be the most boring werewolf novel ever written. Couldn't get all the way through it.
The rest:

Lowdown Road by Scott Von Doviak. I love these Hard Case Crime novels. This one didn't work for me. Grade: C
Starve Acre by Andrew Michael Hurley. Was really looking forward to this folk horror novel. Too slow. Grade: C
Daughter by Kate McLaughlin. I kept expecting a BIG THING that never happened. Grade: C
A Guest in the House by Emily Carroll (graphic novel). Great follow-up to Through the Woods. It's even better actually. Grade: B
Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. This literary stuff is hit or miss for me, and this was a miss. Grade: D
The Immortal Hulk: Or is He Both? by Ewing/Bennett (graphic novel). I'm more of a movie-Hulk fan than a comics-Hulk fan. Grade: C
Something Very Wrong by Jonathan Butcher (collection). Body horror collection from Butcher. Not as engaging as What Good Girls Do for sure. Grade: C
Immortal Pleasures by V Castro. Vampire erotica. Couldn't get into it. Grade: D
Trick R Treat: Days of the Dead by various (graphic novel). For the serious Trick R Treat fans only. Grade: C
Charmed Life by Diana Wynne Jones. My third book from Jones, and least favorite. Dogsbody is my fave. Grade: C
The Haunting of Velkwood by Gwendolyn Kiste. Great idea: an entire street that turns into a ghost. Story loses steam though. Grade: C
Okata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor. Another one that starts off strong and loses steam. Advertised as the Nigerian Harry Potter. Grade: C
