Cavallaro's Cavalcade of Carnage
Fifteen books read.

BEST OF THE MONTH

Sibs by F. Paul Wilson

Black Wind will probably always be my favorite from FPW, but Sibs is a fun thriller for about 70% of it and a borderline insane bizarro book for the last 30%. If you know, you know. It has no connection to the Repairman Jack books, so works as a standalone.

WORST OF THE MONTH

Beneath the Dark Ice by Greig Beck

Didn't finish it. Read half and didn't care what happened after that.

The rest:

Eynhallow by Tim McGregor. Frankenstein story. I love Tim's stuff, so this was a rare miss for me. Grade: C
Conjure Wife by Fritz Leiber. I know it's a classic, but I was bored with it. Grade: D
Godzilla: Rivals, Round One, various writers/artists (graphic novel). Fun format: Pitting kaijus from Godzilla against each other. Grade: B
Fiends by Richard Laymon (collection). I like Laymon's novels more, but it's always fun to read him. Grade: B
Deep as the Marrow by FP Wilson. Another good one from a dependable writer. Grade: B
Hurricane Season by Mark Powell. I wasn't hooked. Grade: C
Flicker by Theodore Roszak. Kinda trippy, but ultimately too slow for me. Grade: D
Rat God by Richard Corben (graphic novel). Lovecraftian paranoia-themed graphic novel. Grade: C
Batman: Reptilian by Ennis/Sharp (graphic novel). The art was better than Ennis's story, which surprised me. Grade: C
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. I like his magic realism books more. Grade: C
Fever House by Keith Rosson. Thought I'd like this more. The hype is really high. Talk to Me-esque. I was bored with it for some reason. Grade: D
God is Dead by Hickman/Costa/Amorim (graphic novel). I was told that this was a disturbing/extreme horror graphic novel. I was underwhelmed. Grade: C
The Trees Grew Because I Bled There by Eric LaRocca. (collection). My second favorite thing from Eric (Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke). Grade: B

top ten list next!
