In this seven novella (novelette/novella?) collection, author Bridgett Nelson spans across multiple ideas and genres, to bring us a wonderfully put together collection that blurs the lines of thriller, horror, and extreme horror. Ocean creatures that will make you never want to go scuba diving again, naughty girlfriends who want more out of their boyfriends (sometimes literally), childhood friends who one wants to become so much more, and a serial killer that will make you all giggly, are just a few of the tantalizing stories held within the pages of Poisoned Pink. Each has their own flare, their own nice flow to keep the reader engaged and thoroughly entertained, while at takes making even me cringe a little (which at this point in my life is hard to do). Will you take the plunge to meet the sand striker?
This is the first work of Bridgett's that I have read, and I will definitely be looking into getting more in the future. I'd heard rumblings about her writing and how good it was. I know that Bridgett is an award-winner. Sometimes these sorts of things actually turn me off from reading a new-to-me author, and other times I put aside the hype I hear to give in and indulge in the unknown. This time around, I'm definitely glad I did. The stories are the perfect length, none came off as overdone just for page count, none bored me. I read a few back-to-back, but I actually found it nice to sit down and just read one a night for multiple nights in a row. I'd recommend this one if you're also like me and wanting to take a look at one of Bridgett's works for the first time.
Overall I'd give this one an A.
