BEST OF THE MONTH
Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix
Out of twenty books read this month, this was the only one earning 5 stars. Although it isn't my favorite from Hendrix, I must admit it does have everything I've come to love and expect from his books: The scares, the humor, and the heart. Every time.
WORST OF THE MONTH
Safari Honeymoon by Jesse Jacobs (story and art)
I'm not sure who this graphic novel is for, but I have a suspicion it's for LSD aficionados. Sans-acid, it's just weird and boring.
The rest:
American Rapture by CJ Leede. Maybe I'd like Maeve Fly more. Grade: C

A Mask of Flies by Matthew Lyons. I love sad books; somehow I didn't like this one. Grade: D
Thistlebone by Eglington/Davis (graphic novel). Folk horror graphic novel. Neat idea, but there are better ones out there. Grade: C
Worst Case Scenario by TJ Newman. I was all-in for at least 2/3rds of this one. Grade: C
The Queen by Nick Cutter. I still don't know if I like this writer or not. I love some of it, and hate others. Grade: D
My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies by Brubaker/Philips (graphic novel). Brubaker and Philips NEVER disappoint. Grade: B
The Wishing Pool and Other Stories by Tananarive Due (collection). Not bad, but not as good as Ghost Summer. Grade: C
The Life Impossible by Matt Haig. Not bad, but easily my least favorite from him. Grade: C
The Dragon in Winter by Jonathan Maberry. Third book of this trilogy, but the first book is still the best. Grade: C
See How She Runs by Matthew J Costello. Crime novel from Costello; his horror stuff is much better. Grade: D
Black Evening by David Morrell (collection). Creepers remains my favorite work from Morrell. Grade: C

Loving, Ohio by Erman/Beck (graphic novel). Bonkers coming-of-age graphic novel and frontrunner for the Stoker if you ask me. Grade: B
Yellow by Aron Beauregard. The first from Aron that didn't work for me. Grade: C
Soft and Others by F Paul Wilson (collection). I love FPW, but this wasn't my favorite thing from him by any means. Grade: C
The Hills of Estrella Roja by Ashley Robin Franklin (graphic novel). Great idea, but pacing problems. Grade: D
All Rights Reserved by Gregory Katsoulis. Great concept (words are trademarked), but story suffers under the weight of it. Grade: D
Mean Spirited by Nick Roberts. My first from Roberts. Great possession story. Grade: B
