In this ten story collection from Chase Will, you'll find a little something for everyone. Creepy stories, more horror styled stories, quiet stories, and stories you'd think would be a great episode of TV if expanded. I always like to test out new authors to me with a story collection first to really get an idea of what they're about, and this one didn't disappoint.
My favorites were probably "Meat Bag" which provided a gorier tale that not only fed my curiosity but also a few sharks, and also the title story "Mandated Smiles" which was a creepy, trippy story that I feel would make a great episode of Black Mirror if Chase were to write one. Always remember to smile; you never know what will happen if you don't! In the end, I didn't find a bad one in the batch, they were all enjoyable, just different styles throughout which was nice.
I had the chance last year to meet Chase and hang out, talk books and horror, grab this collection, and chill over food. It really is true, the nicest people really do write some of the most messed up stories.
