What a dismal reading month. Only 7 books read.
Nevertheless, one has to be the best and one has to be the worst.
Them's the rules!
BEST OF THE MONTH
Dear Hanna by Zoje Stage
The sequel to Stage's Baby Teeth. Not quite as good, but the evil child in Baby Teeth turns into an evil adult in this one.
WORST OF THE MONTH
A Good House for Children by Kate Collins
This is what I hate about some gothic literature. The complete disregard for pacing, and over-reliance on setting and "vibes".
The rest:
Run by Blake Crouch. My least favorite from Crouch, but far from bad. His newer stuff is better. Grade: C
Weyward by Emilia Hart. Too many timeline shifts/character POV changes. Grade: D
The Madness by Straczyncki/Aco (graphic novel). Straczynski is legendary in the comics world, but this isn't his best work, despite the great art. Grade: C
Lovesick by Luana Vecchio (art and story). A Splatterpunk graphic novel (why aren't there more of these?), but while high on gore, a little thin on plot. Grade: C
The Blanket Cats by Kiyoshi Shigematsu (collection). Loosely-tied, wholesome collection of stories about cats in blankets. I love these Japanese cat fables. Grade: B
