I like to watch movies with my wife, and I think she'd love Stuck in Love, but I'm glad I didn't watch it with her.

You see, I get embarrassed. Crying in front of other people always makes me feel like an idiot.

Stuck in Love is a gorgeous, generous gift for the holidays. It takes place between one Thanksgiving and ends a year later, on Thanksgiving.

I'm going to try not to drool all over the screen, but I loved Stuck in Love so much. It's beautifully written and it's about writing.

Greg Kinnear, who I always liked, is a successful and critically acclaimed writer. His two children aspire to follow in his footsteps.

The college-age daughter maintains a cold, hard exterior. She has sold a book to Scribners, but she still needs to find a home for her heart.

The boy is in high school and is a mopey true blue romantic. People like that get their hearts broken on a daily basis.

Kinnear's wife, played by the lovely Jennifer Connelly, has left and is remarried. He can't give up on the idea of her eventual return.

All three are in romantic entanglements. There's drama, laughs, heartbreak, wisdom, beauty. All of it revolves around the love of the printed word.

How can I not love a movie that has a Cemetery Dance hardcover in it? The son is a big Stephen King fan and he gives his girlfriend the 25th Anniversary edition of It.

King's presence is all over Stuck In Love, and he even makes a sneaky appearance in the movie. You'll have to watch it to see what I mean.

Stuck in Love is exactly the kind of movie I love the most. It's all about dialogue, emotion, and heartfelt performances. The movie is set in a northern town, and the snowy scenes are exquisite.

In addition to Kinnear and Connelly, the fine young actor Logan Lerman has a wonderful role. Nat Wolff and Kristen Bell are also great.

Wait, did I mention the emotive songs in the soundtrack? There's Elliott Smith, Conor Oberst, The National, and other cool indie-rock artists. Nat Wolff and his brother Alex even do a song.

I can't say enough superlatives about Stuck in Love. See it and remember what it was like to fall in love for the first time, but also that first devastating heartbreak. The movie is a potent look at a long term relationship and how important forgiveness and understanding are. It's a reminder of how we need to open our hearts if we want to experience real joy. We are the sum of our experiences and all of it comes out in our art.

Most importantly, Stuck in Love is about the importance of words, of language. How writing, books, ideas, and stories shape us and give our lives divinity. If the movie isn't better known, that's because these things aren't as important to the average automaton as they are to us.
