Cavallaro's Cavalcade of Carnage
No time to waste! Let's get into it.

BEST OF THE MONTH

Bloom by Delilah S Dawson

I read three by Dawson this month and this one was my favorite. The story itself treads on well-worn tropes: obsession, deadly secrets, forbidden love, etc, but Dawson wraps it up nicely in a 200-page package.

WORST OF THE MONTH

We Are the Beasts by Gigi Griffis

It hurts me to do this, because I LOVE a previous YA novel by her called The Wicked Unseen. Read that one instead. A satanic panic-themed YA book. Highly recommended.

The rest:

Operation Bounce House by Matt Dinniman. New one from the Dungeon Crawler Carl guy. I'm telling you, The Grinding is his best book.  Grade:  D

Primordial by Lemire/Sorrentino (graphic novel). We3, but for grownups. Grade:  B

Let This One Be a Devil by Tynion/Foxe/Kowalski (graphic novel). This is a fun one. Plays with cryptids and urban legends. Grade:  B

Exquisite Corpses by Tynion/Walsh/Pichetshote (graphic novel). Kinda fun, but relatively mindless gorefest. Grade:  C

Daytripper by Moon/Ba (graphic novel). Eisner-winner, and classic Carpe Diem plot.  Grade:  B

Guillotine by Delilah S Dawson. Not bad, but a tad predictable. Grade:  C

The October Film Haunt by Michael Wehunt. I don't know what people see in this one.  Grade:  D

Scream: Curse of Carnage by Clay McLeod Chapman/Mooneyham/Brown (graphic novel). Plot is a little convoluted, but great art. Grade:  C

The Violence by Delilah S Dawson. The Purge meets COVID 19. Grade:  C

That's it!  See you next month.
