Frostbitten by Dietrich Stogner
Balancing on a razor's edge between dark fantasy and horror, and in my opinion, excelling at neither.
The rest:
The Nasty by Lees/Cahoon (graphic novel). Excellent coming-of-age slasher comic book. Grade: B
There are No Giant Crabs in this Novel by Jason Pargin. Upcoming. Pargin has yet to pen a novel as good as his debut, John Dies at the End. Grade: C
Darklings by Ray Garton. Meat and potatoes/old school horror. Not bad by any stretch, but Garton has better stuff. Grade: C
The Cleanup by Skipp and Spector. Yeah, I know it's a classic. Call my lawyer. Grade: D
The Human Target by King/Smallwood (graphic novel). Animal Pound is where it's at. Get that one instead. Grade: D
Curse of the Reaper by Brian Mcauley. Reminded me of Brian Pinkerton's Rough Cut, but not as good. Grade: D
No Hero by Ellis/Jose Juan Ryp (graphic novel). For fans of Garth Ennis's The Boys. This may be even better actually. Grade: B
Nocturnal by Nature by Nick Roberts (collection). Some uneven quality, but there are a handful of great stories in here. Grade: B
Wretch by Jeremy Wagner. Another hit from Wagner. My favorite is still Rabid Heart, but this extreme horror/crime story is solid. Grade: B
Happy Hour by Gemma Amor. Short and punchy novella. Surprisingly emotional and violent. Grade: B
Out of Their Minds by Clifford Simak. Simak is great, but this one may have asked a tad too much of my suspension of disbelief. Grade: C
