Yes! YES! YES! This is what I've been waiting for! Drag Me To Hell is awesome; the best and most entertaining horror movie I've seen in, like, forever. Sam Raimi scores with his finest movie to date.

Drag Me To Hell worked in every way for me. I jumped when I was supposed to jump, I was grossed out when I was supposed to be grossed out, I laughed when I was supposed to laugh, I cared about the characters at the right moments and I was at the edge of my seat at the suspenseful parts. And I marveled at the amazing visuals.

Perhaps best of all, in an age where it's virtually impossible to make a movie of this scope without the use of CGI, Raimi admirably uses as much conventional, physical effects as he reasonably could in Drag Me To Hell.

Yeah, sure, the movie's theme and style echo The Evil Dead movies, but I only see that as a good thing. But the script of Drag Me To Hell is tighter and more focused than in Raimi's early classics. And what makes this movie more effective is the compassion the viewer feels toward the protagonist. Most of us love Bruce Campbell as Ash in the Evil Dead movies, but he's such a wiseass that even while we want to see him emerge victorious, we like to see him abused. We feel for Alison Lohman as Christine. She's a good, sweet kid from humble origins trying to make it in a tough world and she doesn't really deserve the hell she goes through.

All of these savagely original foreign horror films are important and we need them to further the genre, but my favorite horror movies are the equivalent of thrill rides. You scream, cheer, feel a little sick, but have the time of your life. Drag Me To Hell is so exhilarating and it makes me forget all of my cynicism about the genre and feel like a kid again.

John Carpenter, George Romero, Wes Craven, Dario Argento, Tobe Hooper, I still love all of you, but I hope you see Drag Me To Hell and eat your hearts out and hang your heads in shame.

And for those reading this that are waiting for the DVD or feel that you're too hard to see a horror film that has less than an R rating, I hope you get dragged to hell and are condemned to an eternity of remakes and soulless CGI-heavy excuses for horror movies.
