BEST OF THE MONTH
A Psalm for the Wild-Built & A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers (Monk and Robot duology)
This is the kind of cozy science fiction I can get behind. Two novellas, with probably sf's most likable character ever (Mosscap). I couldn't get enough of it. I'm sure sf fiends are begging Chambers for another one (add me into that group). If you're ever feeling down, I guarantee these books will brighten your day. Oh, book one won a Nebula Award too. Just saying.
WORST OF THE MONTH
Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich
Sorry, I know people love this book, but just way too many characters and too slow-moving for me.
The rest:
Darker Days by Thomas Olde Heuvelt. Not bad, but I'm beginning to think he will never top Hex. Grade: C
The Honeys by Ryan La Sala. Great concept, but it wore thin around halfway and just kept getting thinner. Grade: C
Tommysaurux Rex by Doug TenNapel (graphic novel). Doug is 2-for-2 for me. Loved this heartwarming tale just as much as I loved Ghostopolis. Grade: A
The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl by Barry Lyga. This was my second favorite book of the month. Grade: A
Sims by F Paul Wilson. Gosh, I love FPW, and this one had me in its grips for at least 200 pages. Great climax, but some work to get there. Grade: C
