Hostel came out on DVD today. Some of you have seen it and I?m sure some have disliked it. However, I thought it was a great gore/horror film. If you like hard-hitting, no bullshit scary movies, cast your vote by buying a copy of Hostel this week. Prove to the studios, to the world, that we are sick of dickless PG-13 CGI eye candy horror.

I?m not stupid. Well, not really. I know that Hostel isn?t really a great movie. When I watch something like this, I?m under no illusion that I?m sitting through anything like Bergman or Scorsese. I love movies by those guys, and a lot of other world renowned directors too. Some people have kind of accused me of being too damned old for this sort of thing. I mean, it was one thing when you were a late teen, or even in your 20?s, but why should a 45 year old man want to watch infantile movies that exist to grossout, disturb or offend its audience?

I think I continue to do it so I will remain young. Not my body, but my heart and spirit. I steadfastly refuse to lose that wide-eyed youth that is still kicking in my psyche. Like Detective Cameron from Night of the Creeps, I look to the screen and challenge it to ?THRILL ME!? I?m fighting off the demons that make so many individuals feel afraid to act like a drooling, unsophisticated adolescent.

But what of all the accusations of offensiveness in Hostel? Yes, this film is offensive and demeaning to men, women, children, gay people, America, the rest of the world and just about everything and everyone else. Detractors have decried these kind of movies all along, claiming them to by misogynistic and mean-spirited and have claimed them to be sort of pornography of violence.

Waitaminute. Are slasher/gore/horror movies supposed to be PC? Remember when you felt that horror movies were supposed to be offensive to grown-ups? I do. My parents would have shit to have seen some of the relatively mild stuff that I watched at drive ins and late shows when I was a teenager. And I would have laughed my ass off at them. They wouldn?t have gotten it. Gotten the joke, the kick, the sucker punch of seeing a really brilliantly executed murder scene and a truly depraved motion picture.

Make your vote and buy Hostel this week. And buy The Hills Have Eyes when it comes out. Fuck renting or Netflix.
