I know there is a politician named Kevin McCarthy, but I'm talking about the legendary character actor.

The first movie that comes to mind, of course, is the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers. A certified classic. But McCarthy was in so much else. For one, he had countless appearances on TV shows. But McCarthy was in so many other great film, most notably in Joe Dante movies. Let's take a look.

Piranha, The Howling, Twilight Zone: The Movie (Dante's segment), Innerspace, Matinee, The Second Civil War, Looney Tunes: Back in Action.

And outside of Joe Dante movies, McCarthy appeared in Kansas City Bomber, My Tutor, The Midnight Hour, UHF, The Sleeping Car, Max Allen Collins' Mommy, Ghoulies 2 &3, Fast Food, and dozens of other movies. Kevin McCarthy reprised his legendary Invasion of the Body Snatchers character in Philip Kaufman's acclaimed remake.

But really, Kevin McCarthy made his career in television. Generally in guest appearances on regular shows, and in network movie productions. He stayed busy all his life and became one of the most recognizable faces in show business.

Kevin McCarthy was a character actor, and his presence improved everything he appeared in, whether it was a big or small production.

Outside of the screens, Kevin McCarthy did much stage work, and he did a one man show about Harry S. Truman called Give 'em Hell, Harry.

He also lent his voice to over twenty five episodes of CBS Radio Mystery Theater.

Kevin McCarthy led a full, rich, productive life, and his work touched millions. He died today, on September 12th, 2010, of natural causes. He was 96. He will never be forgotten.
