Surely Ray Garton needs no introduction. The guy has been one of the forerunners of horror fiction for the past thirty years. But maybe there are some newbies checking in here that need to be clued in.
Ray Garton began publishing in the early-to-mid 1980's. His first two books, Seductions and Darklings were pretty damned good. I especially enjoyed Seductions. However, like many horror readers at the time, my first exposure to the fiction of Ray Garton was with the classic erotic vampire novel, Live Girls. This 1987 novel put Ray on the map, and it was the one that also put him into the ranks of the Splatterpunk writers.
I don't really consider Ray to actually be a Splatterpunk. Despite some of his books that fall neatly into the category, like Live Girls and Crucifax. No, Ray Garton has never limited himself into any easily defined pigeonhole.
Years and years have gone by. Trends have come and trends have gone. One trend that will never go out of fashion, however, is that of finely crafted horror and suspense fiction. Ray Garton has excelled in this. The guy has steadily created some of the finest genre fiction that has ever seen print. And unlike many of the more widely recognized writers, Ray is reliable. I've never been disappointed by a Ray Garton book.
Ray has two new novels out. Both appear to be in the thriller category, rather than being out-and-out horror. That's not bad news to me. I consider some of Ray's finest works to be thrillers: Trade Secrets, the highly underrated Sex and Violence in Hollywood, Shackled, Serpent Girl.
The two new novels are Trailer Park Noir (I love that title!), and Meds. I'm going to be completely honest here. I haven't read them and I don't even own them. I plan to do something about it as soon as I can. These books sort of came out under my radar, even while I just purchased a copy of the Sideshow Press edition of Garton's novella, Threesome. Right now my car is in the shop and I'm holding off on buying anything until I get the news. It's almost like waiting to hear whether you have cancer or not.
I have no doubt that neither Trailer Park Noir and Meds will disappoint readers. Rather than blow more of my own hot air, I'll let Ray talk about his books.
Trailer Park Noir
Meds
The very good news is, both of these titles are available in every format that today's readers want.
Trailer Park Noir Trade Paperback and Nook
Trailer Park Noir Kindle
Meds Trade Paperback and Nook
Meds Kindle
Even without having read either of these books yet, I give them my highest recommendation. As I said before, Ray Garton never disappoints.
