I almost certainly will see Paranormal Activity 3 this weekend. I liked the first one a lot. I thought it was an ingenious little thriller and I loved that it was made for so little and yet earned so much at the box office. I'm also not ashamed to say that it really had me on the edge of my seat.

The second wasn't as good, I thought, but I still liked it. In trying to give the scenario more punch, I think the effect was lessened. Less is often more in these kind of stories. Just look at the Robert Wise version of The Haunting compared to the remake.

I don't expect PA 3 to be any sort of revelation, but I hope to have a good spooky time with it. Who knows? Maybe I'll be surprised and like it more than even the first one.

I love these films because they are the antithesis of things like the Saw movies and Rob Zombie's films. They're quiet, suspenseful, and scary. It's good for the genre to have a franchise that isn't yet another series of over-the-top gorefests.
