Kyle Lybeck's Literary Lair
Jagger is a sweet pup. Close to two hundred pounds, the Mastiff mix loves his mom, Amy. Jagger is Amy's life, her love, her everything. He gets all her attention, day in and day out, and loves to play any chance he gets. The devotion runs deep, more than anyone can imagine.

Clayton is a low-life sack of garbage. Living nights fighting dogs, hoping to make a quick buck. That was until his sure bet lost and now he's got debt to pay. When those he owe come after him he doesn't know what he's going to do. That's when he finds a man who offers him a solution. An injection that can turn dogs into vicious fighting machines, hellbent on killing anything that crosses their path. Clayton knows for sure he can win with any dog now. The only problem is that if injected into smaller dogs, it tends to kill them outright. Clayton needs a larger dog, something that can handle such a jolt to it's body.

Teresa doesn't know what she's doing with her life. Living with Amy, trying to not fall back to her ex-boyfriend Clayton, she's in a current state of limbo. That was until Clayton came to her for help and guidance in what to do with his current situation. After searching for a suitable dog and having no luck, Teresa has a light-bulb moment, one that she hates to even think of, but she wants to help Clayton any way that she can. She suggests selling out her own friend's dog, just so she can look like the hero.

What nobody expected though, was that the injection would create something beyond their capabilities and comprehension. Something so violent, so bloodthirsty, that nothing can stand in it's way, animal...or human.

In this heart-wrenching tale of a woman and her best friend, comes a story that is very well written and is has great character engagement, but for dog lovers a very tough read to get through. I found myself looking over at my dogs many times during the reading of this story, and could not even imagine what I would do to someone who would have the audacity to try and steal them away from me to only do harm to them.

It's a novel like this that I feel has done the best job in getting my attention in a long time. Something that is so brutal and hits so close to home for me, that I couldn't pull myself away from reading and imagining what would happen next. Not only to Jagger, but everyone surrounding him, especially Amy. I'd give this a B+, and now I'm going to go give my dogs a hug.

Coming soon from Sinister Grin Press!
