Kyle Lybeck's Literary Lair
House of guilt. House of lies. House of death, destruction, and dismay.

Jerry and Ann seem to be your average husband and wife with their children. Jerry realizes he's been a little distant with the kids, and as they have grown up, they are also growing apart from him. Sitting in front of the television isn't a family affair any longer, as the kids play on their phones or are otherwise distracted. All of a sudden everything stops working in the house on one fateful night. The televisions go dark, and then start to display odd videos. The outside of their house is blanketed with a mysterious cover. When trying to break out windows to escape, all of the chairs and tables fall apart in their hands. Attempts to contact the outside world are met with phones that don't work, batteries having been removed. Thus begins their terror.

The family that Jerry thought he had, is no longer the family he wished to be with. As he soon finds out, his wife is cheating on him with a man that is soon found in the house. His daughter strips for money via webcams. His son shoots up drugs in his room while he thinks nobody is around. Then there is the truth that Jerry himself hides from everyone, and it's not the older brother of his children that died as a young boy.

Who is doing this to his family? What is he hoping to accomplish and teach these four? How did he gain access to their home to set up this illustrious trap in the first place? How does he finalize their ultimate truths into an ultimate betrayal?

This is Strangers, the newest novel by author Michaelbrent Collings. A guilt ridden thrill ride through the lives of a disturbed family that seemed all too normal, and a man who believes in setting them straight. Without the usual gore fest and offensive language you find all too often with authors these days just for shock value, Michaelbrent spins a tale that keeps you enthralled from page to page, making you want to know what this family did to deserve such a horrific turn of events. Overall I give this novel an A, and would definitely recommend it.
