Yes, a prequel to Bubba Ho-Tep, from Lansdale Himself.

My tolerance for Lansdale's dialogue quirks has grown pretty thin these past few months....I wish he'd write a few in a row where he played it straight. I'll probably read this if I get a review copy...otherwise, I'll wait for a sale on the digital edition.

This sounds like some of Joe's Bizarro writing, which has very little appeal to me.

I didn't expect to like Bubba Ho Tep but really got into the spirit of it and enjoyed the novella, so I'll gladly read this.

Danny, I recommend Fender Lizards.

I plan on picking this up as well; I think Lansdale's quirks are actually a bit more suited to this kind of material.

And I'd +1 on the rec for FENDER LIZARDS...that one is among the best novels I read last year, and is certainly among my favorite Lansdales, even though it's technically YA.  It really took me by surprise how much I loved that one (and no overt Lansdale quirks, Danny!).

I third Fender Lizards. One of my favorites of his books, and I liked the way Joe avoided the obvious cliches with it.

ALL THE EARTH, THROW TO THE SKY is another outstanding YA novel by Lansdale.  Much like FENDER LIZARDS, it neither reads nor feels like YA material.  THE BOAR isn't too bad, either...though in comparison to FENDER LIZARDS and ALL THE EARTH, it does fall short.

I like The Boar a lot. More, I think, than All the Earth Thrown to the Sky, but not as much as Fender Lizards.
