I really enjoyed the books I have previously read by Rio. They were Mama Fish and The Angels. Goos stuff, with clean, clear prose, and surprising storylines. I was pleased to see that The Forgotten Girl is a breakthrough book for the guy. I got a copy from the library, and while I am sure that it's very good, I didn't get far in it. I have never been fond of books that start with action right on page one. I like to have character established before the shit hits the fan. Which is why Firestarter is my least favorite of the classic King books. Then the premise seemed a bit far fetched to me.

I know I'm missing out on a good book, but these days if I am not enjoying something within a few chapters, I am out of there.

I almost picked up a copy a couple weeks ago when I was at The Strand, but I already had too many books to chose from for the little space in my luggage, and there were a few things that I saw when browsing through it that pushed it down the priority list.  I'll probably still read it one of these days, but it won't be for a while.

I'm sure that I am missing out on a good book, but then again it was kind of rubbing me wrong from the start. No book is for everyone. I began reading Don Winslow's The Force, and it seems to be more to my liking. I'm truly glad that so many are enjoying The Forgotten Girl, and I'm especially happy for Rio.

Hey, Mark, let me know what think about THE FORCE.  I've been reading (or buying, anyhow) more contemporary noir lately -- e.g. Harper's SHE RIDES SHOTGUN, Lange's THE SMACK, etc. -- and Winslow's THE FORCE has been at the top of my Maybe/Probably Buy List, given the rave reviews it's been receiving.  Would be very interested to get your take on it.

Ron, so far The Force is very powerful. Really strong stuff, but I'm not too far into it. With the Scares That Care con coming up this week, it may be a while before I really get going far into the book. I'll keep you posted.
