I watched it with India last night. She was visiting her uncle in California when it came out, so she hadn't seen it yet. Of course she loved it and I liked it even more the second time around.
The great thing about this movie is how it really is about something. Sure it's silly on the surface, but the points it makes about the shallowness of high school popularity comes forth in it.
Plus, I love the part where they toast "the world's greatest night". It happens, but usually when you're young. The night of wild events that changes everything. When magic seems to happen and you're not the same person the next day, or forever after.
In a year of great movies, I Love You, Beth Cooper is one of my favorites.
I finally caught this one last night. While the movie wasn't huge on laughs, it was still entertaining to see the byplay between all the kids. In my opinion, it was effective at showing how various groups of kids are treated in high school. I found myself nodding more than once as they interacted with each other.
And seriously.....how awesome was that commencement speech? God, it'd be fun to pull a stunt like that.
I haven't caught the movie yet, but I feel like I have because I read the book after Mark's recommendation. The book was excellent and I laughed a lot!
I'm with the critics on this one, big guy. I walked out after forty minutes and not a suingle laugh. IMO Chris Columbus is one of the worst directors out there and every joke just fell flat.
But I'm glad you enjoyed it. Bill
I watched this. It sucked shit through a swirly straw. Sorry, Mark. Waste of a Netflicks rental. And Bill ? Were you offended by this movie ? I was and I'm not even gay.

Oh hell, you know me, Mark. I NEVER pay attention if a movie offensive to anyone. I mean NEVER. I never say stupid liberal shit like "Ooooooooo, I didn't like it, it offended the blah blah blas". Usually that shit goes right over my brain-dead closet-racist head. But for some reason I pictured myself watching this with Justin and I felt I'd be mortified and embarrassed. Heh. Go figure. I DID love the speech, though. It was so good I thought, OK ! Here we GO ! this is going to be a goodern. Meh. I DID love that racoon, though !

Put me on the side that LOVED the movie. Just finished watching it about 10 mins ago, and thought it was flat out great. I do, I have to admit, have a massive soft spot for this kind of story... I fully intend to try and write my own one day... not today, but one day. Thanks for the rec, I wouldn't have seen it over here, there was no theatrical release. Snagged it at the video store.
