Reading! Watching! Listening!
« on: August 27, 2009, 04:14:55 PM »

Reading, Very Hard Choices, by Spider Robinson. A sequel to Very Bad Deaths. So far it's not as good.

Watching, Nada.

Listening, a little of everything. Right now Weird Al's Bad Hair Day. God, does this CD bring back memories. I listened to it constantly in '96. It reminds me so much of Mystery Science Theater 3000. I was watching that show at least a few times a week at that point.

Reading: Catch 22
Watching: nothing right now, but going through Arrested Development and Lost on Hulu
Listening to: Oingo Boingo

I'll add to that Writing: A mashup for Coscom that may get me blacklisted from the industry. :O

All right! I love Boingo!

Amendment: I am no longer reading the Spider Robinson. I just slogged through a chapter and I wasn't enjoying it at all. Life, and my time, are too short to struggle through something I dislike.

Reading: Something horror, really I am Wink, and I'm reading Thomas Meehan's Annie novel to my 4 year old chapter by chapter each night... and yes that is Little Orphan Annie.  My 4 year old wanted to read a book that we could later "watch the movie" of.  Out of all the choices, he chose Annie (I was hoping for Wizard of Oz or something else, but hey, I asked him).

Watching: Psych season 3 with the wifey.

Listening: (looks down at MP3 player) ... uh.... Neil Sedaka's The Hungry Years... bonus track "Goodman Goodbye" (hey, we can't always be listening to metal, Boingo, or Ween)

Reading:  Dark Delicacies 3 -- Haunted

Watching:  Weeds Season 5

Listening:  After seeing Alanis Morissette on the new season of Weeds, I hauled out her debut CD.  It's atypical of what I usually listen to, but I *love* that disc.  So much angst.....it's a beautiful thing.  Smiley

Trapped in the Closet 13-22 was g'damned hilarious.

and some of the chicks are shmokin' hot, imho.

When I first started watching it I couldn't find the remote fast enough to change the channel, but then I "got it"ust in time.

I take it you mean her debut disc as "Alanis Morissette" and not her previous albums as just "Alanis"...

"My name is Alanis. I'm a white chick singer
the drums are a-smokin' and so's the bass
...
they keep on pumpin' a groove and it'll melt your face
Comon' everybody and blow your mind
Because you'l never escape these two words of mine"
~From "Oh Yeah" by Alanis.... deep.

Yeah, the one that scored big for her.  Not the goop you just quoted (that's brutal!)

When Jagged Little Pill came out, I bought it the day it came out because I loved the lead single ("You Oughta Know").   I had to special pre-order it because the shops weren't planning on carrying it (in Biloxi, MS).  I was big time dissappointed upon first listen... all of those other songs didn't match the feeling of "You Oughta Know" at all (I love songs that have big changes in them... like Radiohead's "Creep"), but it grew on me big time within the month. I did some research and found out she had 2 Canadian albums prior to "Jagged" which I special ordered. Little did I know that she was the cheesier "Debbie Gibson of Canada" for those two albums.

The change between the styles is about as extreme as Katy Hudson when she changed her style and name to Katy Perry (coincidentally she is also a Glen Ballard protégé)

Trapped in the Closet 13-22 was g'damned hilarious.

There was a rumor that 23 - 30+(?) was going to be out Summer 2009 (and that R. had already recorded the audio for 20+ more chapters in 2007 but still hadn't finished the convoluted soap opera)... but I haven't seen anything.  R.'s next album ("Untitled") isn't scheduled to have any "Trapped" tracks.  Of course, I still haven't been able to find audio-only versions of 13-22 anyways.

I never knew she had albums before Jagged Little Pill.  Sounds like it's a good thing I was oblivious to them.

I remember her from the show "You Can't Do That On Television", which was on Nickelodeon in.....the late 80s?  Cheesy show, but I remember watching it from time to time.

She's OK on Weeds.  I'll be curious to see what happens to the character.
