Pretty nifty little book.  I could dig it.

I remember when it was released that everyone was mad about the ending.  I don't see why.  I thought it finished pretty good.  I mean, all through it, the two main characters tell you there was no ending to the mystery.  So what were you expecting?

I also liked King's afterward.

One thing that kinda bothered me, though, was that it didn't sound like King's usual writing.  I can't understand why, maybe because his descriptions were sparse, but it felt a bit off.

Anyway, I liked it.

What's the feedback?

Oddly, I felt that it was like King's older voice. I liked The Colorado Kid a lot. A lot more than most readers did and a lot more than the majority of the King books that have come out in the last couple of decades.

I didn't hate it, but don't consider it one of my favorites either.

And I think what disappointed me a little is that it really didn't have much business being a Hard Case book.  In my humble opinion, anyway.

I felt the same way.

I've heard people make that complaint, but I didn't even think about it. I just took the story for what it was.

I'm sure it didn't hurt Hard Case. I love that line.

I'm sure it didn't hurt Hard Case. I love that line.

And I don't fault Hard Case for taking King's story, because hey....it's Stephen Effin' King!  I'm sure the book gave Hard Case all kinds of extra attention.  I just went into THE COLORADO KID with an incorrect assumption of what "mold" the story would fit based on who was publishing it.

King calls it a "bleu" instead of a "noir."  Editor Charles Ardai asked King to blurb one of the other HCC titles and instead King offered him TCK.

I enjoyed it a lot too and think it's a rather unique view on the nature of "mystery" and why people are drawn to them.

Huh.  I didn't care for it much.  The writing was classic King, but in my opinion it went on and on to no real end.  I thought there was too little in the ending to make up for the investment of time in reading...

And those of you who know me know that I think bad king is better than just about anything else...except maybe Straub...

I always felt this story was a lot like From a Buick 8. The story was in the journey to find out the mystery, but you were never really told what the mystery was. So if you want ending to tidy stuff up you would not like either of these books, but if you enjoy going on a ride and are content with that then these stories work well.

Personally I liked them both.

But Cutter.... Buick 8 (though not a definitive part) fit right into the Gunslinger universe, so for me it was like a chapter out of that..  The Colorado Kid, for me, just went nowhere.
