I'm sure everyone here knows this grandmaster of exploitation films.  Dave produced the Blood Trilogy flicks with H.G. Lewis and a slew of drive-in roughies and sexploitation flicks from the '60s to the '80s.

I've just heard from Frank Henenlotter that Dave is not well.  He has been sick for a while and now gets around in a wheelchair.  (He's took a bad fall last year that was crippling.)  I believe Frank said he is partially blind.

Happily, Dave's mind is sharp as ever.  Frank recently visited Dave in his home in Alabama to film an interview for Something Weird's new documentary "That's Sexploitation."  Dave really wanted to talk so Frank and Mike Vraney went down, set up the cameras and got more than five hours of Dave talking about the golden days of exploitation cinema.  Frank said it was wonderful.  They laughed a lot.

Sadly, it will probably be Dave's final interview.  If you're not familiar with Dave's work, and you're a fan of that type of cinema weirdness, you owe it to yourself to check out a couple of his movies.

I met Dave at two conventions.  Once in 02 and again in 05.  He was extremely warm and friendly in 02 but seemed completely out of it in 05.  Not rude, mind you, just like he was on a different planet.

It's good to hear that he was in good enough health to record such an extensive interview.  His commentaries on the SWV discs are all wonderful.

It's worth mentioning that HG Lewis was at both of these conventions as well and I still consider him to be the coolest guest I've ever met.
