NOES 5: The Dream Child
« on: February 08, 2010, 03:36:07 PM »

The first ELM STREET film to bomb at the theater.  And seeing the final product, it's very understandable.

Yes, Freddy's one-liners are still firing.  All you have to see, though, is "Super Freddy" and that about sums this film up.

However, there are a few things I do like about this one.  The continutation is still there, and I'm a sucker for that.  Plus Freddy is finally showing some battle wounds.  I remember in a Fangoria article when THE DREAM CHILD was near release that the F/X crew were going to make Freddy look old and beat.  I think they did a decent job.

I also think that there's a good story buried in all this mess.  It's just that the presenation is so awful.  The actors are wooden, the final script is terrible, and there's no suspense whatsoever.

Yes, this is the one where Skipp & Spector wrote the story.  However, if I'm not mistake, Skipp was only around for the originall story.  Spector was called back to doctor it up.  Supposedly, from legend, Skipp supposedly said that the only thing they kept from the original story was the line "It's a boy!"  It's too bad Skipp isn't a member of this forum.  It would be nifty for him to add some insight.

Overall, THE DREAM CHILD is terrible.  So far (FREDDY'S DEAD is coming up), this is the worst sequel of the series.  And it's easy to hear the steam coming out of its tires as it grings to an end.

Awful.

What's the feedback?

This is my least favorite of all the Freddy films.  I found it to be terrible.  Acting was bad, I personally thought the story was much too far fetched, and the kills were horrible.  However, I do love the line "Faster than a bastard maniac, stronger than a local madman, its SuperFreddy!"  I don't know why I like it, because the scene itself is terrible, but I like it.  Otherwise, my least favorite.

Ditto.

The only Nightmare film I genuinely dislike - hell, one of the few big horror franchise movies I genuinely dislike (which is saying something!).  There is nothing I like about this movie; not a one.

This the one where they play the kick-ass Goo Goo Dolls song, a VERY early one when they travel into the deserted town in the van ?
LOVE that tune !

Naw, that has to be the next one (also terrible, but not as bad as part 5, in my opinion anyway).  Also, on a personal note, I can't stand the FX used in regards to the souls trapped in Freddy at the end of this movie (and part 4 too), and they ruined the endings for me a bit.  Not sure why, it just bugs me.
